Warfighters sometimes need to engage targets in scenarios that preclude the use of traditional warheads. These scenarios might include operations in dense urban environments or against enemies spread over a large area.  In these cases, alternate payloads may be deployed that will satisfy mission objections with a single attack while limiting collateral damage.

 

Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS)

 

Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) defeats area targets without submunitions. Small-to-large target areas are defeated by control of the release point and spin rate of the rocket in order to provide the desired lethal effect on the ground. GMLRS provides the right solution for area targets with limited collateral damage and leaves no unexploded ordnance (UXO) on the ground.

 

 

Countermine System (CMS)

 

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is supporting Boeing in the development of the Countermine System (CMS), a critical air launched munition component of the Navy’s Assault Breaching System (ABS). The CMS attacks surface laid and buried mines along the beachhead and in the surf through a controlled dispense of countermine neutralizers. The system is designed to neutralize mines in order to provide safe landing for the Marine Expeditionary Forces (MEF). CMS achieves target defeat without leaving unexploded ordnance on the battlefield.

 

 

Enhanced Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS)

 

Kinetic Energy (KE) Rods Payload are the future for area targets. The Enhanced Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Retrofit includes General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems’ trajectory correction kits for improved system accuracy. Its lethal pattern size and shape is controlled for target specific results using HOB (height-of-burst) and spin rates with minimal collateral damage.

Flexibility to Perform Precision Strikes with Devastating Lethal Effects

 

Our proprietary “Dial-a-yield” approach to blast warheads allows warfighters to selectively detonate all or a portion of the system explosive, providing flexibility to perform precision strikes or devastating lethal effects, depending on the proximity friendly structures. Our dispersed rod payloads allow users to engage targets spread over a wide area or confined within a precision pattern. In addition, these rods do not contain explosives, eliminating the hazard of unexploded ordnance on the battlefield.
