Description

Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia, is one of the largest shipyards in the world specializing in repairing, overhauling and modernizing ships and submarines. It's the oldest and largest industrial facility that belongs to the U.S. Navy and it's also the most multifaceted.

 

 

The shipyard provides:

  • logistic support for assigned ships and service craft
  • authorized work in connection with construction, conversion, overhaul, repair, alteration, dry docking, and outfitting of ships and craft, as assigned
  • manufacturing, research, development and test work, as assigned
  • services and material to other activities and units, as directed by competent authority.

 

Norfolk Naval Shipyard is one of the shipyards of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), the largest of the Navy's five system commands.
