SMi’s Global MilSatCom 2017 will open doors in two weeks at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London with an expected turnout of over 500 delegates from nations and organisations including Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Ghana, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, USA and more. This year’s event has seen a record-breaking level of military delegation. With 30% more military attendees than last year’s show, this has been the highest number of military representatives Global MilSatCom has seen in its 19-year history.

The Hosted Payload Alliance (HPA) and SMi Group, the producer of Global MilSatCom, are working together to offer HPA’s Global Government Payload Exploration workshop again at Global MilSatCom 2017, after officials from more than a dozen countries and organizations attended the workshop at Global MilSatCom 2015. The pre-conference workshop will take place November 6, 8:30 a.m. – Noon, at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London. “HPA would like to thank SMi Group for once again giving us the opportunity to hold this workshop,” says HPA Chair Al Tadros. “Global MilSatCom is a unique event where government and industry can engage in direct dialogue, and we’re proud to be a part of it.”

CANNES, France --- The second batch of Iridium NEXT satellites built by Thales Alenia Space has been successfully launched by SpaceX from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. After the perfect commissioning of the first 10 satellites launched in January, eight of which are now interconnected and operating in full compatibility with the initial Block One Constellation, with two being maneuvered to an adjacent plane, this milestone marks a new step for the fantastic Iridium NEXT adventure.

Many major Department of Defense (DOD) space programs GAO reviewed have experienced cost and schedule increases. For example, costs for the Advanced Extremely High Frequency satellite program grew 118 percent and its first satellite was launched more than 3.5 years late. Costs for the Space Based Infrared System grew nearly 300 percent and its scheduled launch was delayed roughly 9 years.

HAIFA, Israel --- Elbit Systems Ltd. has announced today that it was awarded a contract to provide the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) with dozens of satellite-on-the-move (SOTM) systems. The contract is in an amount that is not material to Elbit Systems and will be performed over a two-year period.

PARIS --- The French defence procurement agency (Direction Générale de l’Armement, DGA) has awarded Airbus Defence and Space a contract to carry out preparatory studies and definition work for the future ground segment of the Syracuse IV satellite-based military telecommunications system. The results of this study will help prepare for the Syracuse IV ground segment construction phase, scheduled to begin in 2018.

The sixth Italian FREMM frigate “Luigi Rizzo” was delivered on 20th April 2017 by OCCAR to the Italian Navy.
