The project “International Maritime Defence Show” (IMDS) initially originated and was successfully implemented for the first time in St. Petersburg in the days of 2003 when the 300 anniversary of the city was celebrating.
In the following IMDS was successfully held seven times which includes IMDS-2015 with 423 participants from 28 countries, among them 40 foreign companies. IMDS-2015 was visited by 46 official delegations from 39 countries. Two Deputy Ministers of Defence, nine Commanders of Naval Forces and other high-ranked officials visited the Show as official delegations.
IMDS-2015 wide format allowed presenting in a single exhibition space an exposition based on 17,000 square metres, 39 ships, boats and vessels at the berths. At the artillery range of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation firing demonstrations from 10 naval artillery systems were held for mass-media representatives and foreign official delegations. There were over 20 congress and business events including four research and training conferences within IMDS–2015.
In its 14 years in existence the project IMDS received a steady dynamics of development, reaffirming its relevance, acquired wide popularity and took place in the system of international exhibitions of naval arms and equipment.
The 8th International Maritime Defence Show (IMDS-2017) will be held under the Russian Federation Government's order №1140-p from 19 June 2015 in St. Petersburg from 28th of June till the 2nd of July, 2017.
The organizer of IMDS-2017 is the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The Exhibition is held with participation of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, the Government of St. Petersburg and Rosoboronexport JSC. The Exhibition Operator is Morskoy Salon JSC.

The Sovershenny corvette completed the state sea trials in the sea combat training ranges of the Pacific Fleet. During them the representatives of the plant delivery team together with the ship crew and the members of the State Admission Commission conducted manoeuvring and speed tests of the corvette, checked the operation of all the aggregates, systems and units, navigational and radiotechnical equipment, as well as the armaments of the ship.

Seagull, Elbit Systems’ groundbreaking Multi-Mission USV, participated in the bi-national MCM trials for unmanned maritime systems that were organized by the Directorate General of Material Resources (DGMR) of the Belgian Defence Ministry. Completing her maiden voyage, the Damen Multi-role Aviation Training Vessel (MATV) MV Sycamore arrived in Sydney harbour early on Monday morning. A Russian Pacific Fleet naval strike group has successfully found, tracked and 'destroyed' a simulated enemy submarine in drills in the Sea of Japan, Defense Ministry spokesman Vladimir Matveev said Saturday. The simulated enemy, a Varshavyanka-class diesel-electric sub, is nicknamed the 'Black Hole' by the US Navy since it operates so quietly.

The Admiral Grigorovich departed a Sevastopol, Crimea, port to join the Russian fleet stationed in the Mediterranean Sea, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The frigate was deployed in November 2016 to launch Kalibr cruise missiles on terror cells operating within Syrian borders.
