Presentation of Equipment of Armaments Message 2015

05/26/2015

A presentation of the equipment whose acquisition is requested as part of Armaments Plan 2015 was held today on Thun military barracks. The Federal Council has submitted to Parliament an investment of 542 million Swiss francs for military equipment in 2015.

Members of the security policy committees of the National Council (Lower House of Parliament) and the Council of States (Upper House) were able to personally find out today in Thun the acquisitions planned for the armed forces.

During the presentation of the equipment, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer, head of the Defence Department, Corps Commander André Blattmann, Chief of the Army, and Mr. Martin Sonderegger, CEO of armasuisse armaments agency, briefed parliamentarians on the three major acquisition projects planned for this year, and which will cost 542 million Swiss francs.

These are the acquisition of a reconnaissance drone system (250 million CHF, $263 million), new-technology shooting simulators for Assault Rifle 90 (21 million CHF, $22.5 million) and a light all-terrain vehicle for technical systems (271 million CHF, $286 million).
