China’s one commissioned aircraft carrier and its second one doing seat trials at the moment face one serious problem – finding enough combat aircraft to take off from them. 

MOSCOW -- Russia’s sole aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will be upgraded to carry deck-based generation 4++ MiG-29K/MiG-29KUB fighter jets, Head of the Nevskoye Design Bureau (the developer of the warship’s modernization project) Sergei Orlov told TASS on Monday. 

China is developing a new fighter jet for aircraft carriers to replace its J-15s after a series of mechanical failures and crashes, as it tries to build up a blue-water navy that can operate globally, military experts and sources said.

Russia's Defense Ministry on Thursday denied media reports on possible reasons for the recent crash of a Su-33 fighter during landing on the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean.
